Why in the World are "The Who" headlining the Super Bowl?
I mean, I understand that the guys who run the NFL are pretty gun shy after Ms. Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction, but Tom Petty and now The Who?
I’m a 42 year old white guy and even I hate the Who! They were over rated in the 1960-70’s when they were good! Now a bunch of 60 yr old guys with the only great player dead will dust off some 40 year old songs and try to look relevant?
What IS this crap? What about the Rolling Stones, Fall Out Boy, some country singer or a hot chick?
But The Who? Quick survey, how many people now more than "Pinball Wizard" and "Won’t Be Fooled Again"?
Hell, what about Led Zeppelin, KISS, Black Sabbath or even Journey with the Filipino singer??
But The Who????
Has there ever been a more over rated group since Dexy’s Midnight Runners?
WHAT is wrong with having a decent Superbowl group who has been relevant in the past 25 years??
What gives???
I keep hearing Zepp broke up, so did Sabbath! Cannot they reunite? Like 50% of the original Who is better than Bonham’s son on drums with Plant and Page? C’mon people!!
Isn’t the SuperBowl young, hip and violent? Sure, why not Fall Out Boy, they have sold millions and are hard but not heavy, like Van Halen, why not them? Even they are fresher than the Who!
I have been in bands since I was 16, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Thin Lizzy I grew up with, I accepted the Stones, Zep, Sabbath, Pink Floyd and the Who as British invaders. But c’mon, what Great songs do they really have?
What about AC/DC??
Much better than The Who, even "The Police" are better than the Who. Even U2 is better.
We need fans of American football to headline – British soccer, Rugby and Cricket fans should NEVER sing at the halftime of a game they don’t understand or care about.
Rolling Stones? Paul McCartney? The Who?
Uggh!!!
Prince was the best recent show – Let’s get a Prince/Reba duet!!!
Bring back the Grambling Marching Band from Super Bowl I perhaps? Put them in a stage show with Fleetwood Mac performing the USC band’s part in Tusk! Now that would be Football.

It should be Miley Cyrus, Jonas brothers, and Justin Bieber.
Or get the guy that sings pants to the ground.
GZA, ARIZA, ODB | Jan 25, 2010
I guess it’s related to Who dat!

I do agree that they’re overrated, but at least they actually play music and aren’t some Disney Channel fabrication.
They should get the Wu-Tang Clan though.

The Who really are a great live band. They put a lot of energy into their live performances.
Plus it’s highly unlikely there will be any wardrobe malfunctions.

"Who are You", "Baba O’Reilly"(everyone thinks its called teenage wasteland), "Squeeze Box","My Generation" just to name the first one’s that came to mind in 2 seconds. The Stones already did a halftime show a few years ago. Led Zeppelin?,, um,,, they disbanded in 1980 after Bonham died. Kiss? No way that Gene Simmon’s ego could fit in a football field. Sorry if ya don’t like the Who. I don’t really think that an old band with only 2 original members out of 4 is a great act either for the halftime show but,, its only 15 or 20 minutes. WHO CARES! lol

I agree that The Who without Entwhistle is kind of pointless, but to say that they were overrated is simply wrong. They were one of the greatest bands in the history of Rock and Roll, period. I can probably name dozens of their songs with no difficulty. I’ve seen them live several times, and have most of their albums on vinyl. OK, I’m prejudiced, but so are you. We won’t convince each other, that much is obvious.
Now, as to the others you listed. Journey would be a joke. Even when they were popular, they were never the caliber of band one would associate with the Super Bowl halftime show. Kiss and Sabbath, while a bit cloer to that level, are still a bit down the list, and certainly are not the type of family-friendly act the NFL wants. The last time the NFL went with A- (Instead of A) list performers was when the Janet Jackson fiasco happened. Ever since, they’ve been getting top, Hall of Fame level, acts. The Stones just did it four years ago. Fall Out Boy, I’ll assume you were kidding. Zeppelin is not together. Whether you like them or not, The Who have always been a great stadium act, and this is the right stage for them.

first off all…..KISS sucks, and second, Led Zeppelin broke up in 1979 after jon bonham(the greatest drummer ever!) died
the who is pretty tight…saw them in 03 with robert plant opening…good show! tom petty sucked last year and i can’t stand janet jackson and justin timberlake…i believe this will be better than the last few half time shows

Oh, how about **** YOU!!
The Who are arguably one of the most talented and influential bands ever. If you are honestly implying that bands like KISS, Fallout Boy, Sabbath or Journey are even close to The Who, then you should be shot. Even at the age they are, they can still rock the sh** out of a show. And if you are legitimately a 42 YO Fall Out Boy fan, you may want to reconsider the direction of your life. I am only 18, and I can appreciate real talent when I hear it. Pete Townshend is one of the greatest song writers ever. so suck on that

The fact that you claim they are overrated means you either don’t actually like rock, or haven’t researched what you are talking about. For *decades* The Who has been regarded as one of the top three rock bands, along with Zeppelin and the Stones.
And the irony is further compounded by your mention of "overrated" and "KISS".
And I would much rather have a group perform that is ‘good’, rather than ‘relevant’. Whatever than means.
